The Sunday Night Contra Dance is held in Glen Echo Park, either in the Spanish Ballroom (beautifully restored to its 1933 splendor) or in the adjacent Bumper Car Pavilion. Neither of these venues are climate controlled. Please dress accordingly (lightweight garments in the spring and summer, removable layers in the fall and winter). Experienced and new dancers will find a warm and welcoming community. Most evenings feature a variety of traditional American contras and two waltzes, plus occasional squares, circle mixers, or other couple dances, all performed to energetic live music with skilled and enthusiastic callers from all over the country.
If you've never tried contra dancing before, there's a brief orientation session starting at 7. You don't need to bring a partner, but smooth-soled shoes that fasten securely are recommended.
When: Every Sunday 7:30 pm - 10:30 pm (orientation session at 7pm)
