___ Folklore Society of Greater Washington (FSGW) was established in 1964 to further the understanding, investigation, and appreciation of the folk arts in the DMV area. Today FSGW accomplishes this goal by programing annual events for the community, offering financial and marketing aid to local programs, and advertising events for the general public.

    • Events include: participatory and performance dance, singing, concerts, and storytelling
    • FSGW supports over 200 events a year
    • Membership offers discounts and free events
    • Family-friendly events included!
*All experience levels are welcome, no partner necessary!

      FSGW Picnic

      • Beginning July 1, 2024, the Friday night contra dance at Glen Echo will be hosted solely by Friday Night Dancers, Inc. FSGW congratulates FND on rebuilding the dance through the COVID pandemic and we look forward to their continued success. What this means for dancers is that tickets will no longer be able to be purchased through the FSGW website after July 1. Dancers will need to go to the FND Website to purchase tickets as well as sign up for their newsletter to receive updates on future dances. We will continue to work with FND in support of contra dancing and music, just like we’ve been doing for 50 years!

      • The Board of the Folklore Society of Greater Washington stands in solidarity with all who are striving to create a more racially just world.
