Contra dance in the Bumper Car Pavilion at Glen Echo Park, Glen Echo, MD. Co-sponsored by Friday Night Dancers and FSGW.
Caller: Melissa Chatham
Melissa Chatham calls contra dances in the Baltimore / Washington DC area. Melissa's philosophy is Just Dance. She aims to get your feet moving to live music as quickly as possible with clear teaching and dance selection. She wants everyone to have a grand time - from the dancers, to the organizers, to the band. From first timers to existing dancers, you'll have a blast, just dance!
Band: Some Assembly
Some Assembly Is a group of musicians from Southern Maryland who, for more than 25 years, have been heard regularly around the Baltimore and DC area. The group’s repertoire is eclectic, drawing heavily from traditional instrumental music from Ireland, Scotland, England, both French and English Canada, and of course, America. They enjoy blending this traditional music with contemporary composers, including that of band member Mary Corletta Flora. The training of members in classical and jazz genres is apparent in many of their tunes. The result is a mixture that easily lends itself to dancing or just listening.
The musicians are: Mary Corletta Flora on flute, alto sax, penny whistles and all manner of woodwinds; Joe Klausner on fiddle, mandolin and banjo; Adam Lee guitar and Donna Moore Boylan on keyboard and accordion.
Gender Free Terms for all dance calls. All dances will be taught.
Lesson at 7:30pm
This is an FSGW Tier 1 event.
