Gospel Sing
When
13 Sep 2015
4:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Location
Home of Karen Smith, Kensington, MD
Gospel sings are held every second Sunday at various homes. The group has an eclectic collection of hymns and other "God songs" (as Helen Schneyer termed them), which are sometimes sung with more enthusiasm than precision. Singing is generally a cappella, but guitars, banjos, mandolins, dobros, and even an Irish harp have added to the enjoyment on occasion. There are no period, style, or creed restrictions, and new material is always appreciated.Numbers called on a typical Sunday afternoon might include such as: Shall We Gather at the River, Washed in the Blood, Who'll Sing For Me? Where the Soul Never Dies, and Little Moses. The Sing is not designed as a religious service but as an opportunity for joyful group singing. Occasionally there may be some discussion of the words being sung along the lines of: 'What is this Ebenezer I'm going to raise?" or "Who are the Achans who are busy far away?" or "What is the significance of the great speckled bird?"The singing starts at 4:00 PM and breaks for a covered dish supper at 6:00 PM, with more singing after supper until around 8:00 PM. Everyone is welcome!
