Winter Solstice Concert

Step into the winter with the gorgeous harmonies of Meridian (Colin de la Barre and Olivia Gale) with special guests Darriel Day and Jocelyn Winkler, and surprises in store.

There's been something missing from the sound of the winter holidays since the retirement of Nowell Sing We Clear, and we've invited Meridian to carry on the tradition of a Folklore Society concert bridging the ancient themes of the Winter Solstice with the sounds of Christmas in old England and early America. Colin de la Barre and Olivia Gale are two bright morning stars rising in New England, shining fresh harmonies on timeless material in the spirit of Roberts & Barrand. Their second CD, Joy, Health, Love, and Peace (2015), captures the feel of inviting country wassailers to come in and gather by the fire and a bowl of mulled ale. Opening for Meridian, FSGW's own Darriel Day (of Scales & Crosstones) and Jocelyn Winkler lend their magnificent voices. Church of the Ascension, 633 Sligo Ave. Silver Spring 20910 (Ride-On bus #16 from Silver Spring or Takoma). $5 nonmembers, FREE to FSGW members; please bring a nonperishable food item, if you can, to donate to local families in need.
