Come celebrate Labor Day weekend with the Orpheus Supertones, six-time prize winners at the Appalachian String Band Festival in Clifftop, WVA, and one of the finest Old Time bands ever to come down the pike.

The band members are: Walt Koken, fiddler and banjo player, founder of the Highwoods Stringband, who became a seminal influence and inspiration to banjo players and fiddlers worldwide; Clare Milliner, fiddler and researcher who worked with Walt to create the monumental Milliner-Koken Collection of American Fiddle Tunes; Pete Peterson, banjo picker and singer, who plays one of Charlie Poole?s banjos in Poole?s style; Kellie Allen, traditional singer and guitarist known for her Riley Puckett-esque guitar playing; and Hilary Dirlam, once of the Arm and Hammer String Band and now bass player for the Orpheus Supertones.

The Eureka Times Standard said: "The band displays a familiarity that draws the audience in right off the bat. ?Just pretend we?re in the living room?, Koken says, ?having a few drinks and playing a few tunes.? Oh, but don't be fooled by the just-folks, easy demeanor. These people are take-no-prisoner, downright hot musicians." Bluegrass Unlimited said: ?Orpheus Supertones have captured the essence of early country music.?

The Orpheus Supertones have produced three critically-acclaimed CDs, all on the Mudthumper label. In addition to Clifftop, they have won numerous prizes at many other old-time music contests. Individual members have won ribbons in fiddle, banjo, bass playing, and vocals throughout the southeastern United States.
