Sara Grey and Kieron Means (Special Event)

  • 15 Mar 2011
  • 8:00 PM - 10:30 PM
  • Home of Ursy Potter, McLean, VA
Two generations, both sides of the pond

Sara Grey and Kieron Means are a mother and son with musical interests and personal lives that cross between Great Britain and the United States so many times that the pond shrinks to a puddle in their repertoires. They collect traditional songs as well as the songs of contemporary troubadours in both places, interpreting their music knowledgeably while commenting authoritatively. Sara is known for her frailing banjo and distinctive tremolo. Kieron brings a rich smooth voice and plays his guitar in styles that show both his American roots and his British upbringing.

Sara Grey has been a featured performer of traditional song in the US and Britain for more than 40 years. Sara has a rare and extraordinary repertoire of traditional songs, gleaned from a lifetime steeped in traditional music on both sides of the Atlantic. Her son, Kieron Means, shares a deep love and respect for the traditions. He has his own fine repertoire, a striking voice, and a fine style on guitar behind Sara or as a solo artist. They will present an evening of rarely heard gems that is not to be missed.

The house concert returns us to one of our favorite locations that we haven't used in while--the home of Ursy Potter and Carter Hearn in McLean, Virginia, just a couple of minutes from the first Virginia exits on the West side of the Beltway. To ask for driving directions, contact Ursy at Riverlover (at) aol.com or call 703-821-1373.
