Dave Para and Cathy Barton (Special Event)

  • 15 Aug 2010
  • 8:00 PM - 10:30 PM
  • Cook's Treehouse, Oberlin, OH
Dave Para and Cathy Barton are lively proponents of the music of Missouri and the Ozarks, acclaimed for their variety and expertise in both vocal and instrumental styles. Putting the song before the singer, Dave and Cathy are caretakers of a long musical heritage, and they are known for deep understanding and affection for traditional music. Their program ranges from lively stringband dance tunes to old traditional ballads to new songs by the best of contemporary Missouri troubadours. Much of their Missouri music has been collected from excellent and noted traditional musicians such as fiddlers Art Galbraith and Taylor McBaine, gospel singer Thelma Conway, and collectors Max Hunter and Loman Cansler.

A versatile duo, Dave and Cathy play several stringed instruments including hammered and fretted dulcimers, banjo, guitar and Autoharp, as well as "found" instruments like bones, spoons, mouthbow and leaf.

Suggested donation: $15. (More if you wish--all the money goes to the performers.) Reservations for this special house concert are a must--the audience size will be limited by the capacity of the air conditioning. Please call Dennis or Judy at 301-776-4314 or e-mail for reservations and directions.
