Tim Eriksen and Riley Baugus (Special Event)

  • 18 May 2010
  • 8:00 PM - 10:30 PM
  • Washington Revels, Silver Spring, MD
FSGW presents Tim Eriksen and Riley Baugus, two fine musicians who love to bring the experience of old-time music to new audiences. Appropriate, since we're inaugurating a new venue dedicated to reinvigorating older music--the rehearsal space of the Washington Revels in Silver Spring, MD.Tim Eriksen (Cordelia's Dad, Cold Mountain soundtrack) is considered "among the world's finest folk practitioners" (Toronto Star). Accompanying himself on fiddle, banjo, guitar and bajo sexto, his "northern roots" Americana sound embraces ancient New England ballads and "shape-note" harmony, love songs and lullabies, and haunted originals with a dose of Southern Appalachian and Irish sounds. The only musician to have shared the stage with both Kurt Cobain and Doc Watson, he recently collaborated with world-jazz pianist Omar Sosa on the 2010 Grammy-nominated album "Across the Divide." His new solo CD "Soul of the January Hills," out May 4th on Appleseed Recordings, is hardcore Americana at its most elemental.

Riley Baugus represents the best of old time American banjo and song. His powerful singing voice and his expert musicianship place him squarely in the next generation of the quality American roots tradition. Known for his contributions to the Oscar-winning film Cold Mountain, he has recorded and performed with Dirk Powell, Tim O'Brien, The Lonesome Sisters and Polecat Creek. His latest solo album "Long Steel Rail" (Sugar Hill 2006) was heralded by Billboard Magazine as "quintessential American old-time music." He appears on the 2008 Grammy award winning Album of the Year "Raising Sand" by Alison Krauss and Robert Plant and on Willie Nelson's upcoming CD "Country Music."
