Danny Spooner (Special Event)

  • 05 May 2010
  • 8:00 PM - 10:30 PM
  • Cook's Treehouse, Oberlin, OH
Australian folksinger Danny Spooner is an FSGW favorite?a spellbinding singer of traditional and contemporary folk songs of Britain and Australia, as well as a raconteur, reciter of Bush poetry, and teller of tales. Danny will be back in the D.C. area for a series of events arranged by the Australian Embassy in commemoration of ANZAC Day, and graciously agreed to do a house concert for us while he?s in town. Don?t miss the chance to hear him.

Danny?s performances are infused with a deep understanding of social history, and enlivened by his personal warmth. His immense repertoire of songs covers the full range of human emotions and experiences.

Danny?s music reflects his long and interesting life?from his childhood in the Cockney-speaking East End of London, to a working life aboard sailing barges, tugboats, and trawlers, to his many years as a university history professor and folk performer. All these influences are reflected in his songs, and nothing pleases him more than to get an audience singing along on choruses. His ability to make traditional music seem new, and make new songs seem old, is what makes him a memorable performer indeed.

Suggested donation: $15, FSGW members, $20 nonmembers. Reservations for this special house concert are a must. Please call Dennis or Judy at 301-776-4314 for reservations and directions.
