Paul Brown and Friends (Special Event)

  • 24 Apr 2010
  • 7:30 PM - 10:30 PM
  • Mount Lubentia (The Wallace's), Upper Marlboro, MD
Paul Brown is a fine banjo player, fiddler, and singer. He started playing banjo at age ten, and has spent years learning music from some of the last fiddle, banjo, and guitar players to emerge before the age of radio and recordings in Virginia and North Carolina. Many of his songs came from his mother, who learned them in the 1920s and 1930s from older musicians near Bedford, Virginia. He?s played with a long list of outstanding musicians young and old, and recorded and produced highly acclaimed albums featuring old time musicians. Paul has appeared at festivals nationwide and taught at music camps since the 1970s. He?s also a broadcast and print journalist, works for NPR, and reports on traditional music and culture as often as he can. He lives here in the DC area, but rarely performs here, so this is a real treat.

Paul Brown says:

"I've known Andy [Wallace] since the 1970s. We've been talking for years about my doing a house concert. Finally it's happening. Old time banjo tunes I don't get to play very many places, some weird old fiddle tunes, songs from my family, tunes learned from people old, obscure and well known -- it'll all be there. Don't miss this one. Guitar ace John Schwab will be on hand, and very likely some other musical pals."

There might even be a pot-luck, or opportunities to jam--check back to the website as plans for the evening develop.

As big as Mount Lubentia is, this event will probably pack it to capacity, so reservations are required for this event. Contact Andy Wallace at 301-324-7311 or andy.sondra (at) verizon.net to reserve a seat.
