Maine?s best-kept musical secret?singer and songwriter Bob Stuart?will make his first-ever Washington appearance in a house concert for FSGW on Saturday, May 16, at the Cook?s in Laurel, MD. Bob will be joined by his daughter, Megan Rogers for a concert of traditional and contemporary songs flavored liberally with the salt of the sea.Bob has lived in Rockland, Maine, since the 1970s, and is well known not only as a singer, but as a fine guitar and banjo player. He performs his own compositions, as well as traditional and contemporary songs from the U.S. and England, many of them inspired by the sea. He has spent the past three decades performing aboard coastal schooners and at festivals up and down the East coast, including the Rockport Festival, Maine Festival, Old Songs, and Common Ground. Bob has released one recording of his original compositions, Rainbow?s End, and has just released two new CDs?one featuring traditional and contemporary music of the sea, and one of original songs. In addition, Bob?s music can be heard on the recordings of folk musicians including Margaret MacArthur, Rick Lee, and Gordon Bok. Megan Rogers sings songs that range from the tender to the sassy. Whether she?s belting out ?Jolene? or blending her voice with her father?s on a gentle version of ?Come By the Hills,? her singing is a rare treat. Suggested donation for the concert is $15. For reservations and directions, call Dennis and Judy at 301-776-4314.
