Return of the NativeEd Trickett, one of the great troubadours and song sharers of our time, is from these parts--as he puts it, "I grew up near Dupont Circle back in the days when you could afford to have kids grow up near Dupont Circle." He finds gems of songs from traditions and songwriters all over the country, and polishes them and sings them in his distinctive tenor voice so that you want to learn them from him, or at least sing along on the chorus. He often accompanies himself on 6- and 12-string guitars and hammered dulcimer. His repertoire includes a wide range of ballads, sea songs, songs of love and protest, and an occasional song of no consequence whatsoever. Many of his recordings are solos. Many were with the trio of himself with Anne Mayo Muir and Gordon Bok, and many are with other artists, especially from the MidWest. He?s had legendary appearances on radio, including "A Prairie Home Companion."As E.J. Trickett, Ph.D., his day job is professor of psychology, and while he used to teach locally at the University of Maryland, he?s currently on the faculty of the University of Illinois at Chicago, and doesn?t get back often enough to play music in our area. This concert is your rare chance to hear him here.
