Debra Cowan is an exceptional interpreter of traditionaland contemporary songs, using that ability to communicatethe story within the song. Her rich voice conjures imagesof stony grey Celtic castles, green and rolling English landscapes, and gritty American urban streets. Debra can cast a spell with a woeful traditional ballad of love gonewrong, and then immediately reduce the audience to tears of laughter with an outrageous comic song. Herconcern for social justice and equality is reflected in her song choices, as she may include songs describinglife in the jute mills of Scotland or the meat-packing plants of the USA.
