Location
Washington Ethical Society, Washington, DC
Bluegrass BlastLawrence "Moondi" Klein actually started out singing classical music ?- he and his brother Adam were part of the New York Metropolitan Opera Children's Chorus when they were kids. But all that changed when he first heard mountain music during a trip to southwest Virginia while in his mid-teens ?- and he hasn't looked back. He learned guitar and banjo, moved to the Washington, DC, area and helped form Rock Creek, gaining recognition for his outstanding vocal skills, and Chesapeake with Jimmy Gaudreau, Mike Auldridge and T. Michael Coleman. As Rhode Island native Jimmy Gaudreau tells it, he picked up mandolin quite casually, thinking of himself as a guitarist, and continued to play mandolin with guitar fingering techniques ?- making him, almost by accident, an individual and unique mandolin stylist. He's an advocate of the electric mandolin, and occasionally performs on the modern 5-string version. He's been a member of Spectrum with banjoist Bela Fleck, was inducted into the SPBGMA Preservation Hall of Greats in 2005, and is currently performing regularly as a part of both The Country Gentlemen Reunion Band and Robin and Linda Williams' Fine Group. Together Gaudreau and Klein have recently toured with Emmylou Harris (including a June 2008 gig at Wolf Trap). FSGW is proud to present this superb duo in a concert of bluegrass roots and southern mountain music. Interested?
