A Celebration of World Jewish MusicFrom Beijing to Boston and Moscow to Miami, the Robyn Helzner Trio inspires Jewish audiences to celebrate their cultural roots and non-Jewish listeners to appreciate a vital part of Jewish culture. With rich vocal harmonies and dynamic instrumental arrangements, the Trio presents a diverse collection of new and traditional songs that celebrate the exuberant melodies of modern Israel, the folk songs of Eastern Europe, the love songs of Spain and the eclectic compositions of contemporary North America. With Dov Weitman on mandolin and guitar, and Matt Holsen on bass and keyboard, this acclaimed ensemble brings our rich Jewish musical experience to life.Robyn Helzner, one of today?s leading interpreters of world Jewish music, brings a life-long love and appreciation of the power of folk music to resonate across all cultural boundaries. Robyn has appeared in history making concerts in Hong Kong, Beijing, Tokyo, and throughout North America. The moving story of her underground concerts in the former Soviet Union, which led to sold-out performances in Moscow and St. Petersburg, was told on the Public Television special, Chanukah?A Celebration of Freedom. Robyn has released five recordings - Hearts Awaken, A Fire Burns, and her latest release, Signs and Wonders, feature the Robyn Helzner Trio. Clap Your Hands and I Live In The City, are beloved by children worldwide. Matt Holsen, playing bass and keyboard, grew up in Spain and Chile, surrounded by the music of three cultures and seven centuries. An accomplished singer and instrumentalist, Matt has performed with pop, jazz, folk and classical groups, and appeared on two Capitol recordings under the direction of Leonard Bernstein. A record producer and arranger, Matt currently runs his own recording studio.Dov Weitman, an expert on the mandolin, guitar, and recorder, is a master of musical styles ranging from Israeli folk and bluegrass to klezmer and traditional Spanish dance music. He has performed with the Zamir Chorales of Boston and New York as a singer and instrumentalist. Dov manages a water pollution control program at the Environmental Protection Agency. This concert celebrates the release of the Trio's new CD, a recording of World Jewish Music entitled, "Signs & Wonders." "Signs & Wonders" brings 14 new and traditional songs to life with the same captivating style that has made the Robyn Helzner Trio one of the leading interpreters of World Jewish Music today. Featuring the Trio?s exceptional vocal harmonies and exciting instrumentals, the CD showcases the lively rhythms and evocative melodies that make up the vast Jewish cultural landscape. The FSGW Monthly Program for April is a Sunday Matinee for a change; FSGW members are admitted free, Tifereth Israel members are admitted for $5, and the general public is $15.
