DOUBLE FEATURE DANCE - SPECIAL HALF CONTRA / HALF IRISH CEILI DANCE

with Timmy McCarthy, Janine Smith, and The Morrison Brothers.Timmy McCarthy, known as Timmy the Brit, comes to us from Ballyvourney in West Cork. He is known as a dancing master who has epitomized the pure joy and vitality of the Irish Set Dancing revival that is still in full steam around the world. Few teachers convey the earthiness and social aspects of set dancing as well as its beautiful movements and physicality like Timmy the Brit . This has made him a most charasmatic and enthusiastic teacher.

Calling contras and squares will be our own Janine Smith, a nationally esteemed dance caller and choreographer who brings high energy and fun to contras, squares, and circle dances.

Playing for the evening will be the Morrison Brothers, one of the most highly regarded Contra dance bands currently playing. This band features brothers Owen and Will Morrison, with Owen on accoustic and electric guitars and mandolin, and Will on drums, and father Jim Morrison playing fiddle. Jim has long been a member of the traditional dance revival in the United States, a past director of the Country Dance and Song Society of America, a caller and dance teacher, English ritual dance teacher, and of course Ceili instructor as well. Contra dance music borrows heavily from the Irish traditions, and this looks to be a very exciting match.
