Keeping it in the Family . . . For more than 30 years Norma Waterson and Martin Carthy have been at the forefront of the English folk scene. Joined by their daughter, singer and fiddle player,Eliza Carthy as well as honorary family member, melodeon player, Tim Van Eyken -- together they form one of Britain's most successful and influential folk bands -- Waterson:Carthy.?Breaking News: Norma Waterson will have to sit this trip out, convalescing from complications following a broken ankle. Martin and Eliza Carthy plus Tim Van Eyken will perform as a trio for this tour. We all wish Norma a speedy and complete recovery.Norma Waterson and Martin Carthy have been leading figures in the folk revival since the early 1960s. Carthy's remarkable and influential career has been celebrated with an MBE and various BBC Radio 2 music awards including Folk singer of the Year 2005. He is one of the most admired and best loved figures in the movement and was the subject of a BBC documentary. Norma, also awarded an MBE for services to English Music and fellow recipient of BBC Radio 2 Awards, is one of the country's finest, most emotive singers with her wonderfully compassionate voice. Daughter Eliza Carthy, a double Mercury Music Prize nominee and winner of multiple BBC Radio Two awards is the leading light of a new vanguard of talented young performers. Tim Van Eyken?is a brilliant young melodeon player ?with a passion for English traditional music. Not surprising then that the latest Waterson:Carthy CD, Fishes & Fine Yellow Sand, is a joyous musical celebration with... "dark characters and dirty deeds... Waterson:Carthy have a real spring in their step."
