"Woody Rediscovered: an Exploration of Woody Guthrie's Lesser Known Songs," with Steve Suffet and Anne Price There are more than 3,000 songs in the Woody Guthrie Archives, and Woody recorded well over 300 of them. However, only about 30 are well known today. In this musical workshop Anne Price and Steve Suffet will introduce you to a few of Woody Guthrie's other 2,970+ songs. Some were recorded or published in Woody's own lifetime; others were discovered among his effects after his death. All deserve to be recognized as the gems that they are. Come prepared to learn some new old songs!Born in 1947, Steve Suffet is best described as an old-fashioned folksinger. His repertoire is a mixture of railroad songs, trucker songs, cowboy songs, union songs, old time ballads, blues, ragtime, Gospel, bluegrass, topical-political songs, and whatever else tickles his fancy. Heavily involved in the antiwar movement in the 1960s, Steve appeared at several of the legendary Broadside hoots in New York City and was a guest on Izzy Young's radio program on WBAI-FM. Back then, Steve played lots of small coffee houses in the New York area. Steve then left the organized folk scene for nearly 30 years, playing instead at political rallies and demonstrations, campgrounds, schools, day care centers, weddings, parks, pubs, and pick-up jam sessions. Steve returned to the folk scene when invited to appear at a Sis Cunningham Tribute Concert in New York City in 1997. Since then he has played gigs all around the New York City metro area. Steve has led workshops for the People's Music Network and for the New York Pinewoods Folk Music Club. In 2003, Steve became part of a newly formed folk group, MacDougal Street Rent Party, although he also continues to perform individually.Anne Price is a versatile and gifted singer born and raised in New York City. She sings a wide variety of traditional folk songs and many songs from contemporary songwriters, as well as songs she has written.
