Village Harmony (Special Event)

  • 10 Apr 2006
  • 8:00 PM - 10:30 PM (EDT)
  • Seekers Church, Washington, DC
Start with a village in Vermont. Add villagers from anywhere else, especially high school students and other young people. Teach them to sing harmonies--from Sacred Harp, from the Balkans, from the Caucasus republic of Georgia, from Corsica, from South Africa, from anywhere in the world where people have traditionally loved to sing together. Use the songs to teach them music and culture and harmony in the greater sense of the word. Stir well. Create a community of song. Now go on tour and have them share their community as well as their songs. That's what this concert is about. The concert features music to touch the heart and soul, from village singing traditions across the world, performed by Vermont's world-acclaimed ensemble of talented teens, including:New & traditional American shape-note songs Baroque Easter cantata by Buxtehude Village Music from Bulgaria and Caucasus GeorgiaTraditional songs and dances from South Africa
