Andy Kane calls with Sankofa Strings (Sunday Contra)

Just in time to wrap up Black History Month, the African-American string band Sankofa Strings will play with Andy Kane calling. The band is: DC native, now in Arizona, Sule Greg Wilson (5 string Banjo, ukulele, percussion); from North Carolina Rhiannon Giddens (fiddle, five string banjo);and from Arizona, Dom Flemons (four string banjo, guitar, harmonica, jug, kazoo) will be playing their blend of American Old Time, blending it with European and African sounds.

 

 While this evening will focus on their dance repertoire, be sure to check out their FSGW concert the previous Friday, February 24th, which includes string band standards, blues, hokum tunes and anonymous folk songs next to new interpretations of Afro-Pop, sea chanteys and Celtic ballads. http://www.sankofastrings.com/home.html
