Long time, nationally renowned, and home grown caller Tom Hinds comes up from Faber, VA to call to the music of The New Southern Cowtippers. These musicians have been involved in traditional music since back in 1943 when Howard Zane's father gave him a banjo. His earliest influences follow a direct line to the playing of the civil war, playing clawhammer and "knock down" styles. Sandy Hofferth started playing fiddle in the early 1970's, and was a member of contra dance bands in the DC area in the 80's, and later in Anne Arbor, MI. Jim Jones, on guitar, started his musical career in 1961 and has played in many folk and old time bands. Their sound is distinctly Southern, with Midwest and Northern influences for good measure. http://www.newsoutherncowtippers.com/This dance will be free to FSGW members and will also double as a nominating meeting for the FSGW board.
