When
07 Nov 2004
7:30 PM - 10:30 PM
Location
Glen Echo Park Spanish Ballroom, Glen Echo, MD
Rock N' Roll Stringband supergroup The Mammals will rock The Ballroom with their high-energy music for contra and square dancing. The multitalented Beverly Smith (accomplished fiddler, guitar player, singer, member of The Heartbeats, Big Hoedown, and SmithnJones,) calls the figures with those subversive acoustic traditionalists - The Mammals - making the music. This youthful, well-pedigreed quintet includes Ruth Ungar, daughter of Grammy award winning fiddler/composer Jay Ungar, playing fiddle and ukelele, Michael Merenda, art-pop songwriter, playing guitar, and Tao Rodriguez-Seeger, grandson of folk legend Pete Seeger, playing banjo and guitar. Chris Merenda plays percussion, and Pierce Woodward plays bass.Known for their ?Trad is Rad? approach, they infuse "the music of simpler times with the Attitude of today". Check ?em out at www.themammals.net. More info about Beverly Smith at www.smithnjones.net. If you're new to this style of dancing, and yes, even if you firmly believe that you DO have two left feet, come early (7 pm sharp) for a confidence-building Welcome/Orientation to Traditional American Dance session. We'll give you the inside scoop and show you how to maximize your enjoyment of what promises to be an AWESOME evening.
