Colonial Chesapeake: Early Music of Maryland & VirginiaDAVID AND GINGER HILDEBRAND specialize in researching and performing American music ofthe colonial and federal periods. They perform vocal and instrumental musicon period and reproduction 18th-century instruments. In addition to theirvoices, the Hildebrands perform on the violin (German, maker unknown, c.1800); baroque guitar (copied after Voboam, c. 1695); English Guitar (copiedafter 2 models, both c. 1770); hammered dulcimer (modern, by Dusty Strings);English flute (Oberlander, copy by Roessler) and harpsichord (Englishspinet, copied after Thomas Hitchcock, c. 1720). Their concert will includetheater music, dance tunes, topical and patriotic songs, whimsical drinkingsongs, and chamber music. These selections bring America's musical heritage to life with beauty and accuracy.Since 1980, this husband and wife team has been presenting concerts,workshops, and educational programs at museums, historic sites andeducational institutions. Additionally, they have consulted and contributedmusic to documentary soundtracks - from "Liberty! -- the AmericanRevolution" to C-SPAN's "The American Presidents" series, and the PBSspecial "Rediscovering George Washington."Ginger Hildebrand holds a Masters degree in guitar performance from thePeabody Conservatory; she is active in developing and presenting educationalprograms as outreach for the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. David earned anM.A from George Washington University and Ph.D. from Catholic University,both in musicology. David writes and lectures in the field of musicology,and teaches American music history at the Peabody Conservatory of the JohnsHopkins University. The Hildebrands have issued five full-length recordings,the latest of which is entitled "George Washington: Music for the FirstPresident."David & Ginger are founding members of The Colonial Music Institute(www.colonialmusic.org), which promotes the research and publication ofmaterials related to early American music and dance. Co-sponsored by theTown of Glen Echo at the Glen Echo Town Hall.
