Northeastern American Indian Lore and LearningMARGE BRUCHAC AND HER HUSBAND JUSTIN KENNICK offer traditional and contemporary Abenaki Indian songs and stories, accompanied with hand drums, rattles, and flute.MARGE BRUCHAC specializes in researching, interpreting, and performing the history, music, and oral traditions of northeastern Algonkian Indian peoples. Her warm voice, along with Justin?s harmonies and whistle tunes, enlivens Native trickster tales, origin stories and lesson stories to intrigue, teach, and entertain listeners of all ages. Marge and Justin bring the ancient voices to life and share historical anecdotes about the interactions between Algonkian peoples and New England colonists. As an historical consultant for several New England museums over the past 14 years, Marge has designed and presented numerous lectures, teacher training workshops, exhibits, curricula, and staff training programs. In 2000, she was selected 'Storyteller of the Year' by the Wordcraft Circle of Native Writers and Storytellers. In 2001, she was profiled by Yankee Magazine in the article: 'I Still Live: the Survival of New England's Native Tribes.' Her most recent work is a book written for Plimoth Plantation and the National Geographic Society: 1621: A New Look at Thanksgiving.WORKING TOGETHER as Hand in Hand, Marge and Justin have performed at festivals throughout the northeastern U.S., Canada, and northern Europe, including the First Nations Festival in Montreal, Old Songs Festival, Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival, Pinewoods Dance Camp, the Champlain Valley Festival, and the Oost-Friesland Folk Fest in Germany. They have also completed two performance tours of the Netherlands and Germany. MARGE'S RECORDINGS include: Abenaki Heritage Festival and Alnobak with The Dawnland Singers. Their recording, Zahkiwi Lintowoganal/Voices in the Woods features original and traditional compositions of Abenaki music and stories.
