IVONNE HERNANDEZ is a young champion fiddler from British Columbia. She combines the Eastern Canadian Celtic traditions (from her mother's side of the family) with an interest in her Latino and Chilean heritage (on her father's side), mixed with contemporary tunes and a youthful exuberance. She's been fiddling since the age of three. When Ivonne Hernandez was five years old, she entered a fiddle contest at the Saanich Fall Fair in Victoria. There she won a rosette for third place, and her fiddling began in earnest. For years, she's been winning fiddle contest championships across Canada--she currently reigns as Grand North American Fiddle Champion and BC Fiddle Champion. Her playing shows not merely great skill, but a maturity of interpretation that belies her tender age. Ivonne has recently recorded her first CD, Playing With Fire. With broad musical interests, she's already one of British Columbia's busiest performers; she also plays classical music with chamber ensembles and orchestras, and is concertmaster of the Greater Victoria Youth Orchestra. Did we mention she step dances, too?IVONNE WILL BE ACCOMPANIED on guitar and vocals by Jeremy Walsh. A talented entertainer and songwriter in the tradition of Paxton and Guthrie, Jeremy Walsh draws from many different traditions of folk music including Celtic, Appalacian, French Canadian, Bluegrass, Irish,Maritime and Newfoundland. Produced by Hugh McMillan of 'Spirit of the West', 'Self Titled Debut' follows Jeremy's successful stint as a key performer, vocalist and writer in the Canadian band 'Scruj MacDuhk.' While his music ranges from lilting celtic to furious folk rock, all isdelivered with passion and a highly infectious energy. It's no wonder he has shared stages with Eileen Ivers, Lunasa, James Keelaghan, Dervish, The Paperboys and Great Big Sea.
