Stories, recitations, and songs from Northern IrelandBELFAST-BORN MAGGI PEIRCE brings her unique repertoire of songs, stories, ballads, recitations, and poems from and about her native Northern Ireland to Washington, D.C. She grew up surrounded by songs, stories, skipping rhymes, and Victorian parlor recitations. She skillfully weaves them together into a program that transports listeners to her Irish homeland of peat fires, strong tea, and the mournful call of the curlew. MAGGI'S PERFORMANCES are well known to audiences throughout the U.S. She was a featured performer in the Victorian Christmas Revels, and has performed over the years at many festivals and coffeehouses. Most recently, she received the Oracle Award, the highest honor given by the National Storytelling Network in Jonesborough, Tennessee. The award recognizes Maggi for her lifetime achievement 'for sustained and exemplary contribution to storytelling in America.'HER POEMS AND REMINISCENCES have been published by Crown Publishers, and her collection of childhood rhymes, Keep the Kettle Boiling, continues in popularity after many printings. She has three recordings by Yellow Moon Press: Maggi Peirce Live, An Ulster Christmas, and For Younger I've Been.Don't miss this opportunity to hear a spellbinding performer in a rare Washington appearance.UPDATE 9/14: THIS CONCERT WILL GO ON!
