An evening of music and dance with Slaveya Women’s Vocal Ensemble and Lyuti Chushki

Slaveya is a women’s vocal ensemble that sings a cappella folk music from Eastern Europe and the Caucasus. For this event, they will feature ritual songs from Ukraine, Poland, Georgia, Macedonia, Bulgaria and Croatia. The evening begins with a concert of these songs of midsummer madness, changing the weather, youth, old age, love and death, ballads of resistance fighters and more!
After an intermission for refreshments, Lyuti Chushki will launch into a few dance tunes together with Slaveya, then play a set for dancing. Lyuti Chushki plays traditional Bulgarian instruments in modes and rhythms of ancient provenance. Valeri Georgiev, kaval (end-blown flute) and gaida (bagpipe), Boril Peychinov, accordion, and Bryndyn Weiner, tupan (big drum).
