Chris Miles and Gearaidh Matthews

House Concert at the Callaghans' in Edgewater, MD
Chris Miles is a superb Scottish singer from Fife, with a great voice and a large repertoire of songs – traditional, contemporary, serious, and comic; she used to sing in the group Palaver with Gordeanna McCulloch, Maureen Jelks and Aileen Carr. When she’s not singing, she’s an organizer as one of the folks behind the Fife Traditional Singing Weekend. And although she would be too modest to mention it in company, she has been awarded MBE for services to education and young people. (She was a nursery school headteacher [principal] and, until her recent retirement, an adviser to Fife County Council on Nursery Education.) Chris will be accompanied by her partner, the fine traditional Irish musician Gearaidh Matthews, on guitar.
Chris and Gearaidh are touring the United States this Fall. While in our area, they will be performing in two house concerts at FSGW Member’s homes on Saturday, Sept. 10 in Edgewater, MD, and Thursday, Sept. 15 in Silver Spring, MD. For reservations (space will be limited). or COVID information (including the possibilities of last-minute cancellations), contact the respective hosts. Please be COVID-vaxxed and boosted and not infectious at concert time. Masking might be required; and all arrangements are subject to last-minute changes brought on by the pandemic. A suggested donation of $15 (or more if you enjoy the concert and can afford it) would be appropriate for either concert.

In addition to these events, Chris and Gearaidh and Connie will be part of a Celtic Song Showcase at the Takoma Park Folk Festival on Sunday, Sept, 11, on the Abbott Stage, outdoors, at the Takoma Park Middle School, starting at 1:30 pm.
