  • Allyworld

Formerly locals, Cathy Fink & Marcy Marxer have earned two Grammy Awards and more than 60 Washington Area Music Association Wammies; recorded 45 albums together; performed on the Today Show and NPR and at the Kennedy Center; and produced the annual Ukelele & Guitar Summit at the Strathmore for ten years, the Mike Seeger Old Time Banjo Festival at the Birchmere for 11 years, and the Birchmere’s annual Hank Williams tribute for 21 years. They’ve been described in Billboard as “as close to flawless folk-bluegrass as it gets.” And this is the short version of their bio.

They’ve performed with Pete Seeger, Theodore Bikel, Tom Paxton, Patsy Montana, Christylez Bacon, and now with rising Appalachian folkstar Sam Gleaves, who returns to FSGW country after delighting local audiences last year. Following the acclaim for his 2015 solo debut CD and a second album with Tyler Hughes, Sam joins Cathy & Marcy on the new trio CD Shout and Shine. As a trio, they “find common ground in the music they love from Appalachia as well as contemporary songs that keep alive the tradition of singing for and about social justice.” Fink, Marxer & Gleaves was a featured act at Folk Alliance International last year and Southeast Regional Folk Alliance in 2016.

At Allyworld, 7014-C Westmoreland Ave, Takoma Park MD 20912 (Takoma Radio entrance). $20/$10 members.
