RE-PERCUSSION AND PRIMAL-SOURCE RHYTHMS WORKSHOP
With BILLY JONAS
Sunday, March 18, not happening between 10am ? 12 noon
The Electric Maid Arts Space, 268 Carroll Street NW, Washington, DC 20012
Across the street from the Takoma Metro station (Red line)
With homemade drums in both hands, bells on his legs and mallets on his toes, Billy Jonas makes music with his whole body and engages all his listeners - but his favorite instrument is his delighted audience. His music is percussion-based, using found objects ranging from water-cooler jugs (Boom!), to dog squeaky toys, buckets, broom handles and more. His creative songs are by turns up-to-the-moment topical, spiritual, sweet, or wickedly funny.
This fun and instructive workshop for adults and teens will explore: A range of rhythms, rhythmic games and exercises that turn the body into a polyrhythmic palette
Foraged and found sound sources ("re-percussion"), as well as non-traditional homemade instruments (such as glass xylophones), in creating a full sonic-spectrum rhythm ensemble.
Using these sonic tools to facilitate a short "Neo-tribal Operetta," in which our collective musical expressions weave into a glorious, transcendent and synergistic tapestry of sound and song.
Price $35 adults, $25 students aged 12 ? 18
Maximum of 20 participants
Advance reservations required
