The Great American Square Dance Revival Part VIII

  • 19 Nov 2011
  • 8:30 PM - 11:30 PM
  • St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Washington, DC
Well, folks, this is it - the last DC Square Dance of 2011! Come on out to help us celebrate a wildly successful first year of square dancing in the District. A year ago, we guessed there was a latent desire for traditional Square Dancing in this city - and in a few short months, we've gone from zero to being the largest traditional Square Dance in the world (we're pretty sure). Thanks to all of the dancers, musicians, callers, pew-movers, and organizers (The DC Square Dance Collective) who have made it possible!

To celebrate, we've invited the awesome old-time band Hell on the Wabash to play tunes for us this month. From Virginia, Cleek Schrey and Rhys Jones will be fiddling, joined by Paul Brown on banjo, Jordan Tice on guitar, and Jason Sypher on bass. The fabulous (and youthful!) Old Man Kelly will be in town from Blacksburg to teach and call the figures. It's another all-star lineup - not to be missed!

Everyone is welcome and admission is just $5. No partner, experience, or costume required.

Directions: we recommend taking the metro to Columbia Heights. Folks driving in can usually find street parking, but it can be tight. There is a parking garage on Park Rd just west of 14th St, under the big shopping mall.

Want to help keep the dance alive? Email us at dcsquaredance@gmail.com to volunteer, or stick around afterwards to help us re-construct the church. We're an all-volunteer organization!
