Martin and Shan Graebe (Special Event)

  • 01 Jun 2011
  • 8:00 PM - 10:30 PM
  • Cook's Treehouse, Oberlin, OH
Two years ago when Martin was invited to give a talk on the sea songs collected by Sabine Baring-Gould for Mystic Seaport, he and Shan sang a few songs by way of illustration. They were immediately invited to sing at the Sea Music Festival that weekend, and have been invited back this year.

Martin and Shan Graebe sing together in harmony, drawing from a repertoire of interesting and uncommon English traditional songs, particularly those collected by the remarkable, but controversial, Victorian, Sabine Baring-Gould in Devon and Cornwall ? though they also slip in a few of the fine songs that Martin has written in the tradition. Martin has spent many years researching Baring-Gould?s life and work and is an acknowledged authority on his folk song collection. He has given talks about Baring-Gould at festivals, conferences in the UK, USA and Australia as well as to local groups in the community from which the songs originally came.
