Workshop: 3-6 PM and Potluck: 6-7 PM, in church Annex

Concert: 7:30 PM in Sanctuary

Members of the Starry Mountain Singers have toured extensively with the Vermont-based world-music ensembles Northern Harmony and Village Harmony, where they studied traditional songs and singing styles from around the world. They have worked with Meredith Monk, in Revels productions, performed on A Prairie Home Companion and Mountain Stage, and include three members of the Brooklyn-based country band, The Sweetback Sisters. This year, the group is joined by Nora Jane Struthers, a rising Americana songwriter from Nashville who tours with the acclaimed bluegrass band, Bearfoot.

The performance features full-throated styles of singing ? a wide range of secular and sacred traditional songs from the United States, Bulgaria, Corsica and the former Soviet Republic of Georgia, as well as original compositions from the group?s members. The American repertoire includes New England shape-note songs, powerful gospel numbers, and haunting folk tunes from the Appalachians.

Each member has contributed songs from his or her particular area of musical knowledge and expertise, resulting in a dynamic and eclectic program that will delight world-music fans and lovers of choral performance.

Starry Mountain members are Stefan Amidon, Avery Book, Jeff Fellinger, Gideon Crevoshay, Nathan Morrison, Zara Bode, Emily Miller, Suzannah Park and Nora Jane Struthers.
