Strathmore Music Center, Rockville, MDEleven artists, chosen for artistic excellence, cultural authenticity, and contributions to their field willperform in a free concert given by the National Endowment for the Arts. They are the winners of the 2009National Heritage Fellowship, the highest honor in the folk art world. The celebratory evening will featurethis years awardees in mini-performances, visual art displays, and interviews with emcee Nick Spitzer.Mike Seeger will receive an award posthumously for his work as a musician, cultural scholar, and advocate.Other awardees include: The Birmingham Sunlights, an a cappella Gospel group, ?Queen? Ida Guillory?a Zydeco musician; Dudley Laufman?Dance caller and musician; Joel Nelson?Cowboy poet; andseveral others.
