The First Jonathan Eberhart Memorial Concert (Monthly Program)
When
02 May 2009
8:00 PM - 10:00 PM
Location
Washington Ethical Society, Washington, DC
On Saturday, May 2, the first Jonathan Eberhart Memorial Concert will present two sets of performers based in this area and well known to regular visitors to the Washington Folk Festival, where they have been favorites for years. Ganga performs traditional music from Bengal, India. Warner Williams and Jay Summerour play Piedmont blues. Jonathan encouraged both groups to do more public performance, as he often did with musicians he discovered and nourished in his years working with the Folk Festival. Jonathan Eberhart was a founding member of FSGW ?a memorable singer and fine guitarist. As chanteyman, award-winning science writer, radio host, songwriter, active Folklore Society member or discoverer of musical talent, he was a man whose presence was felt wherever he went. When he died in 2003, he left FSGW a bequest, and suggested using some of it as a concert fund to continue some of the work he loved so well. This event is the first in what will be a memorable series that will continue for years to come. Join us at the Washington Ethical Society to celebrate some very fine music, and the inspiring memory of a talented and generous friend.
