An evening of music from the Andes.Rumisonko is a Latin American folk ensemble based in Washington, DC. Its members are originally from Bolivia, Chile, and the United States. The group?s music is a combination of traditional Andean music and other influences from Latin America folklore and New Song movement.Rumisonko means ?heart of stone? in the language of the Quechua, a culture that spans the breadth of the Andes Mountains in South America. It is meant to express the enduring strength of the cultures that are the root of Andean music. The group?s members have performed in venues such as New York?s Lincoln Center and the Kennedy Center. They have also appeared in the Smithsonian?s Folk Life Festival, and in such events as the Latino Festival, Baltimore Folk Festival, and the Takoma Park Folk Festival, among many others.
