Location

John Roberts is sometimes known a s half of Roberts and Barrand or a quarter of Nowell Sing We Clear, but he is an accomplished solo performer when he can break free of his group engagements.John has been singing English folk songs (and some American ones as well) since the early 1960s, when he joined a local folk club in his native Worcestershire. Coming to the USA as a graduate student in 1968, he soon joined with Tony Barrand, to form a duo which has lasted ever since. Singing in unaccompanied harmony, or with concertina or banjo, their entertaining style has delighted audiences at major festivals and venues such as Fox Hollow, Mariposa Folk Festival, Philadelphia Folk Festival, Old Songs, Mystic Sea Music Festival, to name but a few. While continuing to work with Tony, and since 1975 with the seasonal performances of Nowell Sing We Clear, John has continued to work as a solo performer, although he has finally released his first solo recording, a selection of sea songs, some well known to folk afficianados and others less so.We haven?t been to Ursy Potter and Carter Hearn?s home in a too long while, but they?ve got a big space conveniently located just off of the Beltway and just into Virginia. Come join us there for an evening of song by John Roberts. Give a call in advance to Ursy or Carter at 703-821-1373 or e-mail Riverlover (at) aol.com to reserve a seat, or inquire for driving directions. It's not easily reached by Metro, but contact us in advance and we'll try to match you up with a ride from wherever you're coming from.
