Starved to hear people singing together in harmony? Join us via Zoom for FSGW’s first concert of 2021. We’ll have an opportunity to listen to great performers, interact with them, and visit with each other.
Forty Degrees South comes to us from Sydney, NSW, Australia, where they've got the covid-19 pandemic under enough control that a quartet can gather and sing with each other in one room. And the beauty of the pandemic Zoom situation is that we can get performers for whom airfare and visa hassles would be prohibitive in physical space.
Tom Hanson, Don Brian, Chris Maltby, and Margaret Walters (the only one who isn't a guy with a beard) are all powerful individual singers. The group has a formidable repertoire of sea shanties, songs of Australian history and culture, English chorus songs, labor songs, god-bothering songs, drinking songs – you name it!
Formed in 1988, Forty Degrees South have 30 years of robust singing under their belts. They have performed all over the world; Americans are most likely to remember their several appearances at Mystic Seaport’s Sea Music Festival. Margaret Walters is also known as the frequent partner of the brilliant Australian songwriter John Warner, and sings many of his songs.
