Emily Martin

Web Site

Biography: Based in the Washington DC region, Emily Martin (of The Martin Family Band) carries on the tradition of playing, performing and teaching Old Time Appalachian and Irish music on the mandolin, mountain dulcimer, tenor banjo and voice.

Lydia Sylvia Martin

Web Site

Biography: Lydia Sylvia Martin performs traditional Appalachian banjo music and songs... but that's not really an adequate description. Lydia displays a telling combination of traditional feel and technical skill in her banjo playing, and she sings in a sweet, unaffected voice.

Lydia has been playing and learning traditional music since her childhood, and in recent years has devoted herself to exploring the roots of the music she plays and its connections to Irish music, the blues and other traditional styles. This gathering has culminated in the release of her first solo CD, Chasing the Ghost, which has reached #5 on national folk radio charts and drawn strong reviews.
